Geoffrey Murray Dowton collection. [ca. 1928].

The collection consists of Downton's handwritten (photocopied) reminiscences of the Great War, 1914-1918. Also included is "A short account of a pilgrimage made by my wife and myself" in 1928. There are two copies of each. The second copy has a handwritten note to Downton from Reg (Roy) in 1968. The first copy has the stamp of G. Smedley Andrews.

Geoffrey Downton was a Land Surveyor in Lillooet, B.C. He enlisted in the 88th Regiment (Victoria Fusiliers) in 1915 and was transferred in March to the 48th Battalion (which later became the 3rd Canadian Pioneer Battalion). In May 1917, he was transferred to the Canadian Machine Gun Corps. After he was demobilised in 1919, he returned to his profession in Lillooet.
